Designating Your Work Space When You Don’t Have an Actual Office
|
|
For those of you who do not have a room
in your home or apartment that can be used as a home office,
designating your work space when you don’t have an actual
office can be achieved by using your bedroom or a corner
space that is available in your living room. |
Ideally, however, if you have space in your
bedroom; all you need to add is a computer desk, telephone,
computer, flat screen, all-in-one-printer, and chair. Why the
bedroom instead of the living room? You want to utilize a room with
a door so that you have total privacy and interruptions are kept to
a minimum.
A computer desk doesn’t take up much room. Some computer desks are
26 inches wide and 17 inches deep. They can be purchased at any
office supply store and assembled at home. They are compact in that
they have a section for the PC, a roll out drawer for the printer,
the bottom shelf wherein you can keep the wires, adapters, and
cables, and enough room on top of the desk to accommodate a
telephone, LCD screen, cable modem, speakers, desk organizer, and
all of the essentials you will need on a daily basis.
Another tip is to place the computer desk nearest to the bedroom
window. In this way you can save energy by having natural light
streaming into the room. You can also place a lamp next to the
computer desk and use it before sunrise or on days when the weather
isn’t so accommodating.
Ensure that the chair you use is ergonomically correct. Sit at least
18 inches away from the screen, and remember to get up and stretch
every hour. You may also want to put a “do not disturb sign” on the
door handle as well.
While there are a variety of workstations available, measure the
space in your bedroom before you make a purchase. You may find that
a smaller table would suffice or perhaps you have enough room to add
a larger piece of furniture such as a T-shape desk that will give
you more room with which to work.
Designating your work space when you don’t have an actual office can
be done. It just takes a matter of measuring and then visiting your
local office supply stores to determine which computer station will
best accommodate your needs.
