Taking Care of Yourself So You Can Take Care of Your Family

As a mom, you tend to put your family
first before yourself. It is an inherent quality that is
commendable but, at the same time, can have its drawbacks.
Taking care of yourself so you can take
care of your family is a necessary component in achieving
overall health and well-being. |
We all live hectic lives filled with schedules.
It is the mom who has to juggle a hundred different tasks on any
given day. Being the heart of the home, if you become ill there is a
domino effect that ultimately throws the household into a frenzy.
It is important, therefore, that you take care of yourself in the
following ways:
• Ensure you get at least 7 hours of sleep a night.
• Engage in an exercise program, even if it is 20 minutes a day.
• Choose a diet that is full of protein, vitamins, minerals, and
nutrients.
• Visit a doctor regularly for check-ups.
• Ensure you have an annual mammography and pap test.
• Have blood tests every six months to determine if your cholesterol
level and blood sugar levels are normal.
• If you are a work-at-home mom, have your eyes checked annually.
When we become ill, we ignore the symptoms because there is no time
to pamper ourselves. But by ignoring the signs, we leave ourselves
open to a more serious illness. If you have a cold or the flu, take
care of yourself in the manner in which you would take care of a
child with the same condition.
In addition, if you feel that you seem to be dragging yourself from
day to day, it may be time to take a break whether it’s going out to
lunch with friends, taking a trip to the mall, or just sitting in
your favorite chair reading a good book. Unlike the energizer
battery, you can’t keep going at a constant rate without running out
of juice at some point. You need time to rejuvenate the body and
create a sense of balance within.
Take care of yourself so you can take care of your family. Try to
control only those things you can, and don’t worry about that which
you can’t control. Your health is important and as is your state of
mind.
