Organizing Your Pantry the Easy Way

Whether you have a separate room for
pantry items or a closet, organizing your pantry the easy
way can save you time and money.
Have you ever returned from a trip to
the supermarket and found that as you begin to put the
groceries away that you already have more than enough of the
items you purchased on hand?
Perhaps a few cans of chicken soup was
placed behind larger cans of tomato sauce or boxes of
spaghetti are mixed in with boxes of linguini. We’ve all had
this happen at one time or another.

Let’s try to organize your pantry similar to
how you would find items in your supermarket. If you have a pantry
closet, utilize one shelf for canned vegetables, beans, and tomato
sauce, and another shelf for canned soups, broths, and tuna fish.
Next are your boxed or bagged goods such as pasta of all types,
stuffing, bread crumbs, mashed potato mix, rice, breakfast cereals,
etc.
A separate shelf for all of your baking needs such as flour, white
and brown sugar, cake mixes, pancake mix, muffin mix, chocolate
chips, baking powder and the like.
While some people keep their condiments such as mustard, mayonnaise,
ketchup, peanut butter and jelly, or salad dressings in the
refrigerator, you may elect to store these on a separate shelf in
your pantry.
Another shelf may contain your soft drinks, coffee, tea, hot
chocolate, water and other drinks.
If you have room, you may wish to have a shelf for snacks such as
peanuts, potato chips, pretzels, popcorn, crackers, and cookies.
Finally, the bottom shelf is usually reserved for the heavier items
such as the gallon of oil vinegar, and perhaps larger boxes of
cereals or items that do not fit on the other shelves.
If your pantry closet does not have enough shelves, you may want to
use one shelf for your canned goods and separate the canned
vegetables from the canned soups, for example, by utilizing the left
side for one group and the right side for another. The smaller cans
can be placed in the middle, such as tuna fish cans that you can
stack.
If you live in an apartment, there are two-door pantry closets that
you can purchase online or at any of the well-known home stores.
They can be easily assembled at home and in this way the shelves you
are currently utilizing in your kitchen can be used for something
else. Keeping all your groceries in one place will allow you to
determine what is needed at a glance.
Organizing your pantry the easy way will save you time and money.
However, if space is a problem, choosing a pantry closet may be the
best alternative to ensure that you are buying only what you need,
when you need it.
